People Helping People!

The Eagles motto is “People Helping People” and that is demonstrated by the numerous charities both nationally and locally that are supported by the Eagles. It is also reflected in the history of positive contributions on local and national social issues. Local Aeries contribute to all of the charities sponsored by the Grand Aerie. The money collected is often returned in the form of grants to local community efforts that are associated with the particular charity. Local Aeries also contribute to local charities. Sacramento Eagles have donated to such causes as:

Activities

The Sacramento Eagles spend much of their time helping others as evidenced by the many Social Activities available to its membership. When raising money for charitable donations there is always fun involved. Many activities organized for their members include Friday Night Dinner & Dance, Tuesday Trivia Night, chili cook-offs, running a fireworks booth, golf tournaments, and many other activities.

Social Activities are determined by what the membership wants to do. Food is served on meeting nights and various holidays are celebrated with a party such as Halloween and New Years Eve. There are also joint activities with other Aeries such as the District 8 picnic.

Mother’s Day Lives On Thanks To:
Past Grand Worthy President Frank E. Hering

For more than a century, the second Sunday in May has been set aside to honor mothers everywhere – and it all started with a push from the Fraternal Order of Eagles. On February 7, 1904, Fraternal Order of Eagles Past Grand Worthy President Frank E. Hering made a public plea to recognize mother’s everywhere. A decade later, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making Mother’s Day a reality.

The achievement remains one of the most significant milestones in the history of the organization. From preparing brunch to buying cards and flowers, the spirit of Hering and the F.O.E. lives on through our actions each Mother’s Day.

While the F.O.E. continues to celebrate and take pride in the creation of Mother’s Day, many citizens are unaware of the organization’s work toward making the holiday a reality.
